OUTDOOR WOMEN UNLIMITED INTRODUCES LIL' BITS AND

Outdoor Women Unlimited introduces the Lil Bits program.  This program focuses on young girls ages 10-14 who are interested in the outdoors.  As the program continued to grow, the void of programs for young girls interested in the outdoors became more and more apparent.  This program creates an opportunity for both our members and our sponsors to offer their support and experience to educate and encourage young girls interested in the outdoors.   

OWU hosts a day event for the Lil Bit members to attend.  The event will include outdoor activities as well as classes that are geared to girls in this specific age range.  In addition, OWU creates avenues for the Lil Bit members to experience their own outdoor adventures by partnering with local sponsors, schools, and youth programs and developing programs that will reinforce the activities taught during the one day event.  This is a significant age to get girls involved in the outdoors.  It is a crucial step for the outdoor industry to recognize this age group of youth and focus on creating positive experiences that will cultivate a desire for young girls to continued to be involved in outdoors activity throughout their teen and young adult life. 

Once girls reach the age of 14 they may participate in Outdoor Women Unlimited sanctioned events as long as an adult is present.  However, Outdoor Women Unlimited wanted to continue to foster leadership in young girls and build on their experiences and activities in the Lil Bits program.  It was vital for OWU to create another program with the same goals as Lil Bits while allowing for more areas to allow the girls to grow in their independent leadership skills.  From this need grew a partnership with Boy Scouts of America, OWU partnered with the Boy Scouts chartering Venture Crew 380 for girls ages 14-21. 

Venture Crew 380 is designed for girls in high school and college to grow and experience exciting outdoor adventure throughout the state and nation while growing in leadership and organizational skills fostered by the leadership of OWU leaders.  In partnering with the Boy Scouts, OWU has completed the circle of women outdoor enthusiasts from ages 10-91.  To see a young girl grow in her love and passion for the outdoors into a woman that leads her family and herself into outdoor adventures, Outdoor Women Unlimited truly impacts the entire spectrum of its members.  Its allows for members to involve their families and mothers to teach their daughters the importance of conservation and nature.  It is truly creating an organization that allows women and girls of all ages to accept no limits.
