"NO LIMITS" ACEOA OWU STREAMLIGHT SPONSOR HUNT
|

|
The shadows of the moonlight broke through the canopy of the marsh. The break
of dawn was moving in as Angie, Ricky and Becky traveled the backroads to the
meet Rusty and Jason. Driving into the hunting camp the aroma of fresh brewed
coffee lured us to a warm welcome from our hosts. As we talked with Rusty and
Jason, the anticipation of the hunt was soaring; we were ready to take to the
swamp. Rusty explained the rules of safety and coordinated our assigned tree
stands. This was to be a hunt of a lifetime for Angie and Becky...First time to
hunt "The Swamp."
As we maneuvered across the field, the dawn began to crest and penetrate into
the marsh. Time was critical. We began to feel the coolness of the morning dew.
Quietly moving with a quickness to our step, we separated and walked to our
stands. Settled in, the wakening of nature begins to sound....echoes in the
swamp will bring a chill to any hunter...Let the challenge begin!
The morning hunt was a great success for Becky. She harvested a doe. A buck
would have been grand...but hunting this area for the first time and harvesting
a white tail deer....well, it was a hunt of a lifetime. Angie saw deer, however,
did not attempt due to the long distance of their location. Good thinking,
Angie. After gathering at our central location, we headed back to camp for
lunch. We were starved!!! Kenneth Jackson, member and "chef", prepared an
awesome feast. We were greatly appreciative to have a home cooked meal. After
lunch, we made preparations for the afternoon hunt.
The day had warmed a bit. Limited movement was inevitable. Rusty relocated
Angie. We made our walk, climbed our stands and prepared for a great afternoon
hunt. Shadows began to fall over the afternoon horizon...dusk would soon by our
fate. No sounds of harvest by any of the hunters. However, as I began to climb
down and head out to our central location, I heard a faint sound in the open
fields leading into the swamp. Keeping my focus on tree stand safety, I
continued to climb down. Dusk was approaching quickly. I placed my Streamlight
Stylus on my hat, and began to follow the creek. As I walked the sounds became
louder. . .coyotes. Running fierce. . .in pursuit. . .of what??? I remained
still. . .suddenly. . .like a streak of lightening. . .a pack chasing a rabbit.
. .hit the small bridge over the creek. . .Sounds of thunder as they raced
across. . . Was my heart racing. . .what a fantastic adventure. . .to witness
nature at its best.
After returning to the hunting camp, Angie explained she heard crack of
branches....excitement was on....but no site of deer. She knew the weather had
made a difference her chances of a productive hunt. However, she was very
excited to have the opportunity and appreciated the unified supportive efforts
of ACEOA/OWU/Streamlight and Buckmasters.
**Women are making a difference in the field of hunting. Rusty Morrow, President
